Roxangely Cortés Sánchez is an undergraduate Electrical Engineering student at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayaguez Campus. Her area of specialization in this field is Power Systems. At the moment, Roxangely is working under the supervision of Dr. Domingo Rodríguez, in the Automated Information Processing Laboratory (AIP Lab).
Real-Time Power Signal Monitoring using Embedded Systems.
Ongoing research involves the development of low-cost, automated power line signal monitoring techniques for power quality applications. Currently working on a demo prototype which engages the front-end computing of a proposed system for real-time filtering of power signals using the TMS320C6713 DSP.
The mentioned front end computing aspect is composed of a signal conditioning system (SCS), an analog to digital converter (A/D) and a digital signal processor (DSP). The SCS conditions the amplitude of the incoming signal for sampling, the A/D retrieves the data in digital form and the DSP implements the algorithms and computations. The Signal Conditioning System is a coupling circuit designed to attenuate the incoming 120V-rms line voltage of a receptacle outlet without introducing any noise to the signal. The system consists of a step-down transformer and a voltage divider at the secondary winding of the transformer to properly feed the DSP audio port at this end, which oscillates between -3V and +3V. The analog to digital conversion and signal processing of the system are covered using a Texas Instrument TMS320C6713 DSK development platform that includes the necessary A/D converter.
